RoadTrip: Belmonte and Viseu
Nice trip mate, nice :-)
It was kinda spontainous and was actually born from the fact, that most of the Polish planned a trip this weekend. We figuered that if we were to stay almost alone that weekend, we might as well take a trip ourselves. As we didn't want to go too far, the suggestions were limited to aurroundings of Covilha. Well, I was suggesting Salamanca, as it is actually just 200 kms from Covilha, is that a lot?! But the idea went down and we went to Belmonte and Viseu.
Belmonte is great. It's a small town, with an old castle on the top of a mountain. It is a birthplace of Pedro Alvares Cabral. Any of you know who this guy was? How about the man, who discovered Brasil? Why don't these names stay in the history books? :-) And the atmosphere in the town was great, it's full of narrow streets, old buildings, hills, grass, trees, small cafeterias, old people, and many other thigs that just build up the climate. I loved it!
Viseu was actually the main purpose of our trip, but I enjoyed it less then Belmonte. We've seen a castle and a cathedral in there, and that's basically all I can say :-)
And after that we decided not to take the highway back to Covilha, as it goes around. We took a small national road, that goes through the mountains. Hmm... Well it was a little scary. First of all, my poor Fiat didn't take this trip well. All the time it was climbing or descending, so it was terrible for him. And as for the way, OMG... It was completely dark, no lights whatsoever, and a fog, that limited the sight to about 5 meters :-/ Plus, of course just next to the road there was a steep cliff, everywhere we went. So it made the road really great. Imagine "Lost Highway", "Blair witch project" and "The wrong turn" together, and you have an image of how we've felt :-)
Drive slow, homie
So I was thinking this for a long time, but finally I have proof - portuguese people cannot drive! And when the weather goes a little different from pure, hot sun and not a cloud on the sky - they get completely lost. They still drive the same way, as if the weather conditions were great! But just cause ten times more accidents then :)
My friend Magda had her car parked in front of the residence. And in the morning I heared something like car tires on wet road, then a bang and a car alarm. A guy was going down the hill, probably way to fast, the road was slippery, and he hit her car, ka-blamn! Heh, also Alberto's car was there, and he got some, too. We were filling up the accident form together, as she didn't speak portuguese at all and she was very worried about beign cheated. But the guy was ok, he made the papers (Alberto watching him like a hawk) and probably everything will be solved.
Just remember - don't trust the drivers in Portugal!
R & M Visit
Ricardo and Marzena have spotted me! So I was just looking around in a supermarket, and somebody taps me in the back. Pretty often that happened recently :P This time it was Marzena, looking a little surprised and smiling. 'So, what are you doing here?' 'Well, this and that...' 'Okay, so we meet tomorrow at my place, Ricardo will cook the bull-penis again.' 'No problem, see you then!'
And the kid has grown! Not a baby anymore, when everybody have been actually confusing him with a girl :) And a cool guy, really. Doesn't really look portuguese, also. Blond hair, blue, blue eyes. Gonna have some popularity with the ladies when he gets older :)
And the penis was tasty, as always :P
Over and Over
It's been a twisted month!
So, I took my Uno, loaded it up with my stuff and took off to Covilha. The way was nice, with a little exception. Don't try to take the cheaper way, if you don't really know how to do that, cause you might finnish up paying much more :P Just stick to the easy way, take the A1, exit at Torres Novas to A23 and it takes you straight to Covilha, without any problem. Just my advice to all of ya, allright?
And there I took a room at the residence, and pretty much been livin' my life like Erazmus times again! Ok, maybe not as crazy, wicked and totally careless, cause this time I actually had some important for me things to care of. And of course cause I'm getting older and more responsible, right? :> But still, more happened during that month than during my half-year stay in Lisboa. Now I was officially signed as a Condensa researcher and will be starting to do some work with the beginning of march.
